*In Memoriam: Dr. Ahmedou Baba Gana*
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of *Dr. Ahmedou Baba Gana*, a distinguished son of Nigeria and a true friend of Sudan and Africa.
Dr. Baba Gana, who hailed from Maiduguri, Borno State, served with great dedication as the *FAO Country Representative in Sudan*. During his tenure, he earned the respect and affection of the Sudanese people through his tireless work across the country.
A passionate advocate for agricultural development, he championed major initiatives, including the establishment of the *Genetic Resources Laboratory for Animal Breeds in Sudan*. He travelled extensively, from urban centres to rural villages, to better understand and address the challenges of agriculture and livestock.
Beyond his professional contributions, Dr. Baba Gana was known for his humility, sincerity, and deep love for Sudan. He embraced the culture, learned Arabic through community engagement, and often spoke of the deep bond between Sudan and Nigeria, saying: _“Sudan and Nigeria are one country.”_
Even after leaving Sudan, he remained closely connected to its people. Upon the outbreak of war on 15 April, he expressed deep concern and solidarity with all those affected.
Today, Africa has lost a committed development leader. Sudan has lost a loyal friend.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people and the government of Nigeria, and the FAO family worldwide.

ببالغ الحزن والأسى ننعى *الدكتور أحمدو بابا غانا*، ابن نيجيريا البار وصديق السودان الوفي.
شغل الفقيد منصب الممثل القطري لمنظمة الأغذية والزراعة “الفاو” بالسودان، وأسهم بجهد مقدر في دعم قطاعات الزراعة والثروة الحيوانية، وكان له دور أساسي في إنشاء معمل الجينات الوراثية للحيوانات بالسودان.
تميز الدكتور أحمدو بإخلاصه وتفانيه وحبه العميق للسودان وأهله.
نسأل الله أن يتغمده بواسع رحمته ويسكنه فسيح جناته.
